We are confident that we can meet all you vision needs!

Just like any other pair of eyeglasses, you’ll need to visit your optometrist to be fitted for prescription sunglasses. Eye Exams with Spectrum Vision Center

Yearly Eye Doctor Checkups

Eye Exams with Spectrum Vision Center

As you age, even young people, your eyesight can change a lot in a short period of time. If you don’t keep up on accurate prescriptions for your contact lenses or eyeglasses, you can strain your vision even more.

If you get frequent headaches go see an eye doctor to see if they might be caused by eye strain, which can be caused when you don’t realize you need a better prescription, and keep wearing your old glasses and contacts.

If you have blurry vision go to an eye doctor because chances are, you need a new prescription! You may also have an eye health issue, so see your Murrieta opticians right away!

If you have odd blind spots or floating water-looking spots, with or without migraines, it’s a good idea to visit your eye doctor to see what’s causing them. Aside from being an annoyance, they may be caused by an eye illness.

If your eyes hurt, or are overly dry, why deal with the pain and dryness any longer? A quick visit to the eye doctor might just help clear it up, and won’t it be nice to know for sure if there’s something wrong, something that might be easy to fix and make the pain go away?

If you think you have an eye infection, or have injured your eye, like pink eye, see your eye doctor (or at least your family doctor) right away! Eye infections are highly contagious, and some can do permanent damage.

Lasik Surgery Murrieta

Lasik Surgery Murrieta

LASIK is a surgical procedure meant to eliminate or drastically reduce a patient’s visual dependency on glasses or contact lenses. LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. This optical surgery procedure changes the shape of the cornea using an excimer laser. The cornea is a part of the eye that helps focus light to create an image on the retina. Usually the shape of the cornea and the eye are not perfect and the image on the retina is out-of-focus (blurred) or distorted. These imperfections in the focusing power of the eye are called refractive errors. There are three types of refractive errors: myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Myopia, or more commonly known as nearsightedness causes difficult in seeing distant objects clearly. Hyperopia or Farsightedness is the opposite of myopia, one has difficult clearly seeing near objects. Astigmatism is a distortion of the image on the retina cause by irregularities in the cornea or lens of the eye. Glasses and contact lenses are visual aids designed to compensate for these imperfections, but surgical procedures such as LASIK are intended to improve the focusing power of the eye and cornea through the precise and controlled removal of corneal tissue.

Along with the following general requirements, it is recommend that before you proceed with laser vision correction; you take advantage of Spectrum Vision Center’s no-cost, pre-procedure consultation. This important consultation is mandatory prior to having your LASIK procedure at NVision Laser Center. NVision Laser Centers are the Eye Doctors’ #1 Choice for LASIK for their patients.

Explanation of Common Eye Diseases

Cataract Eye Disease  / Cataract Testing Murrieta

With age, the lens in the eye becomes hazy and cloudy.  The lens focuses images on the light sensitive nerve endings (the retina) in the back of the eye.  When it becomes cloudy, sharp images cannot be accurately focused.  The symptoms of cataracts often go unnoticed because the change is gradual.

Glaucoma Eye Disease / Glaucoma Testing Murrieta

Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in the United States.  This condition typically involves an increase in intra-ocular pressure, but can occur with low or normal pressure as well.  It is typified by certain changes to the optic disk (the place where the optic nerve enters the eye) and by losses in the visual field – a narrowing of peripheral vision.

Presbyopia Eye Disease / Presbyopia Testing Murrieta

As you enter your forties, you may find that you need to hold reading matter farther out in order to comfortably focus on it. This is because the lens of the eye becomes less flexible as we age.  The lens focuses images on the light sensitive nerve endings (the retina) in the back of the eye by adjusting its shape according to its distance from the image being viewed.  As the lens becomes less flexible, it can no longer adjust itself to focus on near objects.

Why children need eye exams

 Eye Doctor Exam Murrieta

Studies have determined that 88% of learning is visual. When you consider that one in four children ages 5 to 12 has an undiagnosed vision problem, you’ll understand why educational performance is likely to be affected by poor vision. Unfortunately, children with vision problems often have no way of knowing that they see differently than other children. It is the responsibility of the parents to help children reach their potential by making sure they are free of vision problems. All children should have their eyes examined at or before their fourth birthday. It there is a family history of misaligned eyes, childhood cataracts or a serious eye disease, they should have their eyes examined by age three.

Family history and eye disease

Family history. Race. Gender. Environment. Research has found a genetic basis for nearly every eye disease. That’s why it is important to know and understand your family history and why you should have regular comprehensive eye exams. If you have any of the risk factors below, your chance of developing an eye disease is increased:

Family History. If a relative, especially a parent or sibling, has a serious eye disease such as glaucoma or macular degeneration, you are more likely to develop that same condition.

Race. African Americans are more likely to develop glaucoma, a disease that causes gradual damage to the optic nerve. Caucasians are at greater risk for developing age-related macular degeneration, which affects the part of the eye responsible for sharp central vision.

Gender. Women are more likely than men to develop age related macular degeneration. Pregnant women may experience slight changes in vision due to hormonal changes, water retention and a reduction in tears. These changes usually go away after the baby is born.

Environment. Exposure to ultraviolet light and radiation increases your risk for developing cataracts. To protect your eyes from cataracts, wear sunglasses that block 100% of UV rays and make sure you eat a healthy diet that includes the proper amount of vitamin A. Smoking also increases the risk of age-related macular degeneration.
